ripping is out of control for holiday season!

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 11, 2007, 4:13 PM

****WARNING: Foul language is very present in the following journal***********

....I hate art thieves. I hate them with everything in me. ESPECIALLY those who get all big in their theft. And to make it worse, it seems as though not enough people truly give a shit...excuse the language. It's fucking insanely ridiculous. hearing comments like "we'll why did you put it up, if you had a problem with me using it on photobucket".... well, lets see, CONSIDERING IM A FUCKING DIGITAL ARTIST, I KINDA HAVE TO DISPLAY IT DIGITALLY.  I cant display it in an art gallery, though if you steal art from a gallery you can go to fucking jail.

Im looking for you assholes who take advantage of the artists who work hard to make a name for themselves online, and can do very little about it. Im going to make it one of my lifetime goals to try to get laws passed to where sites HAVE to release info on people who rip work online. You thieves are lower than shit.

Aside from the image i just posted, there are a plethora of others im battling.

[link] i actually reported over 7 weeks ago, and flikr still has yet to remove it.

....to name a few.

MY WORK ISNT FOR YOUR USE. unless it is a stock resource, dont take it and post it anywhere, ever, without permission. im not kidding anymore, its not for your personal use. I dont give permission, and i will try my hardest to make sure you know im not happy.

...how is everything else everyone? have big plans for the upcoming seasons?

I found some work that was kind of ripped, more like borrowed without permission and submitted with credit but eh, too much of a pain to deal with lol.

Sorry to hear about it Amy.

I think tho that some people who repost art merely do it because they like it - they aren't trying to make $$$ off of it. Irritating as it is, the problem is that as soon as you post something on the internet, people are going to want to spread it around.

The only way around it is smaller resolution or watermarking.

I actually learned about DA by finding a piece in a wallpaper gallery with the tag "wirestyle" on it in someones Flickr wallpaper library. I wondered who this wirestyle was, and I googled the name, bam I found DA and joined up. I've ordered prints from the guy and been a huge fan since. Obviously, this is not the average case. Just a thought Amy, sorry these people bother you, and all good artists for that matter, so much. I think that more than legal action, we just need to have more clarification on the internet about what is and what is NOT okay to do with digital art - how to properly attribute things and how to not do it. When you download a song that has been posted elsewhere, even tho you're not paying, at least it's very easy to find out who made it. Maybe if there was something similar we could figure out with art, then it would bring publicity and not pain. I don't think anyone is going to take a Linkin Park track and post on their myspace "hay guys look at this thing my garage band recorded!!@!"

Hmmmmm...there should be like ID3 tags for art. I think the truly damnable rippers are the ones who deliberately crop/remove watermarks/make works with your samples. The people who repost are just kiddies. The ones making money are the real ones you should attack legally first or you might just end up persecuting fans.

Not disagreeing with you, cheers!

Post on Evoke sometime, k?

What gets me is the ignorant responses. They are untalented lazy thoughtless people who should be fined or jailed.

Go get their asses.

Go buy a Copyright.

Costs like, 30$ per print, then start suing.

You own the copyright the moment you created it.

The legal system won't show that.

Through the government, you don't own it.
In order to own it, there's a small fee to purchase a proper copyright.

Actually, that is incorrect at least here in the United States. You may purchase a registration of copyright (c) with the Library of Congress. You may also send many images, songs stories etc as a compilation.

Registering an image/song/literary work does not guarantee you a Copyright. It just stamps a date on it. You can do so with poor man's copyright by sending a copy to yourself, or you may have the back notarized (which is date stamped and signed by witnesses and a notary.)

You own the copyright the minute you create it. The issue is proving the date that you created it.
I have been in the industry over 25yrs, I hope you understand this comes from experience and a desire to educate, not to be rude in any manner.
