In regards to entering a contest, yes, the leaders of the contest should verify sources prior to awarding prizes. Legally speaking, the law allows posting images without making a profit; however. Most websites ban posting of other peoples work. An artist has two legal resources before hiring lawyer that include contacting the member of a website directly and requesting the removal of the image, or contacting the hosting website, in this case Facebook. Legally, once a website has been contacted and they have had enough time to verify the legitimacy of the complaint, they are legally required to remove the image, music or other intellectual property. It seems this has been done. I applaud you for bringing the attention of this to other artists so they can verify if their work is being use, thus, be able to officially request removal of their work. In the past, your several countries have looked into enforcing websites and companies to be proactive in surveillance of submitted work by members. All of these suggested laws have failed to be passed. International and U.S. laws still require the artist to file complaints and the websites or companies to verify those complaints and act in a reasonable time frame that is not stipulated. It sounds like this corporation is working within the law by not proactively verifying every artwork, but removing any reported violation. Thus, notifying artists of possible violations remains very important. Good work ~starfantazy on reporting to them and to the art community this problem.
